Digital Image Capture
Your final product is only as good as the graphics you provide. When dealing with large scale printing nothing is more important than image resolution. Many photographers use a 10 megapixel camera. Artful Color owns a BetterLight Super 8K-HS scanning back camera system that captures an astonishing 384 megapixels, which is beyond film resolution. What does this mean for you? Literally, Artful Color could produce a graphic of your product up to 10' x 10' without losing any image detail (larger with multiple shots). Artful Color redefines “megapixel” and is one of only few across the country who possess this technology, the only location in North Carolina.

Color matching and Technology
Besides possessing the best digital image capturing system and printing technology available, what really sets Artful Color apart is our color expertise. The staff at Artful Color is trained in color science and even played a key roll in Apple’s introduction of the ICC standard. We understand how important corporate colors are to establishing a corporate identity.
The Giclée process delivers a much larger color gamut than traditional offset printing allowing for closer pantone color matches across various media. Even though our lead color scientist holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering with advanced studies in color science, we continue to work closely with leading experts in the industry. Because we have such mutual respect, we collaborate on many projects with key technology leaders in the industry.
One example is our close relationship with the Aardenburg Imaging institute. The Director Mark McCormick-Goodhart was the Senior Research Scientist for the Smithsonian Institution for ten years and the brains behind the print permanence testing at Wilhelm Imaging Research. Our production process has been validated with advanced testing of our color workflow but we continue to refine our process under the direction of partners like the Aardenburg Imaging institute.
Leaders in Green Printing
Artful Color is soon to publish the first in-depth research paper on “Sustainability in Fine Art Printing”. There has been much hype in our industry and miss information about “Green Printing”. We wanted to get to the facts and clear through the “green washing”. This research has taken hundreds of hours. This research also applies to our display graphics. If truly going green for your display graphics is important to you, we can help you get to the real facts about making that happen.
